Popular Garden Building Designs to Emulate In 2023

Have you been thinking about how lovely it would be to add a garden building this year? You aren’t quite sure exactly which of the many ways in which you could actually use a garden building, but the one thing you know for sure is that you really do need a bit of extra space around the house. So then, now that you’ve decided that this is THE year, that 2023 will see that garden building built, you need to determine its ultimate use. Why? Before you can begin ordering all the materials you’ll need for a DIY project, it might help to know what you’ll be using it for! After all, the materials you need will differ to some extent on how you will be using it. With that in mind, let’s begin.

Garden Shed

One of the things you’ve really been considering is a place to keep all the tools and various supplies you use in your garden. Not only can you store equipment, nutrients, natural pesticides and so much more in a garden shed but you can also use it for a mini nursery to get those starts going early. Once they’ve established a healthy enough root system, you can transplant them in your garden. Just think of how many more plants you can grow comfortably this year by getting that head start on seedlings!

Guest House

Another idea you’ve had is building a small guest house in the back yard. While you don’t exactly want to say it’s there for the in-laws when they come to visit, you can hint at it by explaining to your spouse that they really will be much more comfortable without the kids underfoot and the dogs keeping them awake all hours of the night. In fact, you have the option of corrugated roofing that is easy to install and serves as an insulation barrier to keep the temperature comfortable in hot and cold weather. Corrugated roofing sheets are lightweight, so they are not difficult to install. In fact, corrugated roofing can be installed on a building that small in a single weekend. How convenient is that?

Arts & Crafts Studio

Are you continually frustrated because you have nowhere to work on all those arts and crafts projects you’ve got going? Perhaps you have been volunteered to make all the costumes for the annual school musical or maybe you are working on new crafts for your Etsy store. This would make the ideal location far enough from all the chaos but close enough to respond to all out warfare when Johnny decided he wanted the popsicle Susie chose.

Workshop

Maybe you work with a myriad of power tools and even the garage isn’t a safe enough distance from all the little people and animals you’ve got running about. As long as you’ve run electricity out there and have installed locks strong enough to secure the Louvre, you should be fine to work out there! In fact, if you could build a mobile workshop, working across the Channel might even give you that distance you need for safety! (The kids’ or yours? Probably both!)

Home Office

During the height of the pandemic, this is something you really, really longed for. Although the boss and UK law said you could work from home on a flex schedule even after everyone was allowed to “safely” return to the office, it was much easier just to pop open the laptop without going through all the hassle of getting dressed and commuting to the city. A home office would have been nice because you could only commandeer the family room for so many hours out of the day.

Play House

If all else fails, a playhouse may be the only alternative both you and your spouse can agree on. You want a home office and she wants a craft room. You want a garden shed, and she wants an in-law’s guest house. Probably the only thing you can settle outside of divorce court is a play house because you both agree that a bit of peace and quiet would do your nerves well. Actually, since they aren’t really all that difficult to build, maybe you could add an extra multi-purpose garden shed to be shared by husband and wife. Now that’s an idea!

Even though there are other uses trending for garden buildings in 2023, these are the most popular and among the easiest to build. With that said, you really might want to build a bigger unit you could divide in two sections so that both mum and dad have the space they need to keep their sanity going in a chaotic home. Do you think the kids would settle for a treehouse? Why not! Then everyone has their own space, and everyone is happy. (Let the in-laws have the family room – problem solved.)
