HOPES OF THE LION PUB REOPENING DASHED
Hopes of The Lion pub in Wick Road, Teddington, reopening were dashed today when the potential purchasers declared they were no longer interested, Teddington Town can exclusively reveal.
The owners of the Rising Sun in Isleworth had publicly expressed their interest in acquiring the pub – on the market for £950.000 plus VAT – and asked potential customers on Facebook whether a Thai menu would be popular locally.
Many of the responses were negative and expressed a preference for traditional menus, which made the pub – a Victorian two-storey building – popular before its closure in 2022. The pub itself dates back to 1876 but is not listed.
The pub, which has four bedrooms available as accommodation, has a main bar at the front of the pub, with a larger area at the back and a lounge/restaurant which could seat 120 people and has a large garden with wooden tables which offers space for another 100 customers.
Today, the owner of the Rising Sun, was reluctant to discuss specific reason for pulling out of the purchase. “For various reasons, we have decided it won’t work for us,” he said.
The local community will be disappointed at the continued closure following the successful reopening of the Waldegrave Arms in Waldegrave Road, Teddington and the recent purchase of The Builders Arms in Field Lane, which is due to open on November 28 – the same night as the traditional Teddington Lights Up event.
