STRAWBERRY HILL CHOIR IS ON THE MOVE
Strawberry Hill House Choir is on the move after 15 years at the 18th century Gothic home of Horace Walpole, it was confirmed today.
Financial restraints and the constraints of the House have forced the move.
Sadly, the choir was not seen as a viable asset and therefore, at very short notice, a new rehearsal space needed to be found urgently.
To meet the crisis a dedicated and tenacious group of members were galvanized into action seeking out various possibilities for a new location and drawing up plans for taking the choir under its own control.
All of these proposals were shared with other members.
Later, at a packed meeting of choir members, these ideas were endorsed and others agreed to help in setting the wheels in motion.
A new base has been confirmed at another local prestigious further down the River Thames at York House, the HQ of Richmond Borough Council for the re-formed Strawberry Hill Community Choir.
Originally started for House volunteers and the wider Strawberry Hill community the choir used the beautiful surroundings of Strawberry Hill House for rehearsals.
Under Michael, the founder, it went from strength to strength.
Numbers were further boosted after amalgamating with another smaller choir.
It survived the ravages of the pandemic which curtailed its activities for so long and caused a change in leadership.
With relocation to York House an exciting new phase begins and new members are welcome.
There are no auditions. All you need is a love and enjoyment of making music, commitment and a willingness to be challenged.
The choir performs two concerts a year at Christmas and in the Summer. A mixture of genre, styles and languages. The subscription is £85 per term.
