MAN FINED AFTER DOG ATTACK LED TO DEATH OF FALLOW DEER

A Richmond man was today fined £134 after his dog attacked a fallow deer, which later died in Richmond Park before Christmas.
The man, Stephan Diaz, appeared at Wimbledon magistrates court today (thurs) charged with allowing a dog to ‘chase, worry or injure animals, namely a fallow deer’ in Richmond Park on December 2nd 2024, in a Royal Park.
As well as the fine, costs of £85 were awarded to the CPS and a victim surcharge of £53 was imposed.
Diaz was charged with the offence of: Cause / permit an animal / bird of which he is in charge of to chase / worry / injure other animal in a Royal Park
The distressing incident was filmed at the time showing the dog chasing the deer across the road and witnesses told police the man’ simply walked away’ after the attack.
It is understood the dog chased the deer and it then fell and broke a leg which was so severe the deer had to be put down by the Royal Parks gamekeeper.
The police issued a photo of the man and the dog at the time and appealed for witnesses to come forward but the owner voluntarily reported to a police station last month and he was later charged.’
The Royal Parks urge dog owners to keep their dogs on leads in both Richmond Park and Bushy Park when they are walking near wildlife in the park and it is compulsory to keep dogs in leads during the birthing and culling seasons.
