EX-ARSENAL STAR CESC FABREGAS BRINGS HIS ITALIAN TEAM TO THE LENSBURY
Another top Italian team COMO 1907 of Serie A and managed by former Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas is due to arrive at the Lensbury in Teddington before their big pre-season friendlies against Arsenal and Liverpool.
The lakeside-based club, which was formed 107 years ago, travel to The Emirates on Wednesday and to Anfield next Sunday for their two friendlies.
In the last 24 hours the club announced it had signed the 27 year old Chelsea and England defender Trevoh Chalobah for a reported £30m on a contract until 2031.
Como has had an extraordinary rise to success. In 2017, financial problems forced the club down to Serie D, Italy’s fourth tier.
But this year Como reached the Champions League, which is an astonishing progression considering where the club was less than a decade ago.
One of the biggest reasons people have become interested in Como is 39 year old Fàbregas, who also played for Chelsea and Barcelona as well as Spain’s national team. He joined Como in 2022 and is also a shareholder in the business.
His former Arsenal team mate Thierry Henry is also a shareholder in the club which has added a new twist to the attraction of the club.
Fabregas’s side has developed a reputation for technical football, possession and aggressive recruitment of young talent, while also bringing in experienced players.
Como’s revival is heavily connected to the Djarum Group, an Indonesian conglomerate that acquired the club in 2019.
The ownership has invested substantially in infrastructure, scouting, the academy and the first team.
This is why Como are no longer simply a small provincial Italian club — they’re trying to build a modern European football organisation.
Their home, the Giuseppe Sinigaglia stadium, which only has a capacity of 12000, is spectacular as it sits on the shores of Lake Como, giving Como one of the most picturesque stadium locations in European football.
The club is currently working on stadium improvements as it prepares for European football.
