New Cancer Research UK Event Coming to Richmond
Richmond will host South West London’s first ever Cancer Research UK Relay For Life event on 15 July as the 24 hour fund raising challenge premieres in our area.
Taking place at Barn Elms Sports Trust in Barnes, the first ever Relay For Life Richmond will join a global fundraising programme that brings together communities in the fight against cancer and a celebration of survival. Spearheaded by Cancer Research UK, the events are organised by a team of local volunteers reflecting the community spirit of the Relay For Life movement.
The new Relay For Life Richmond event is now open for team registrations here or by calling 0300 123 1026. Each team member is asked to raise an achievable minimum of £200 for Cancer Research UK.
Relay For Life events are a walking challenge where teams of between eight and 15 people take it in turns to walk throughout a 24-hour period in recognition of the 24/7 reality that cancer is to those it impacts. The special event – already hugely popular throughout the USA and Australia – is also a celebration of hope and survivorship.
Barn Elms Sport Trust, owned by Richmond Council, will host the 24-hour event on Saturday and Sunday 15-16 July 2017 where teams will walk around the athletics track, and join in celebrations and ceremonies of hope. Camping facilities will also be available on site for team members to rest and recover. A series of family-friendly events will take place throughout the day to cheer on teams of walkers. Participants of all ages and all walking abilities are welcome and entertainment, food, music and a host of celebratory activities will also be on offer at the first ever Relay For Life Richmond event.
Relay For Life Richmond volunteer event chair Maanik Chadda said:
“Bringing Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life event to South West London for the first time is so exciting. Already our team of volunteers from across the region show just how passionate the area is about improving cancer survivorship and bringing communities together. Huge thanks to Barn Elms Sports Trust for their support in hosting the event – the Relay For Life Richmond event really is the not-to-be-missed occasion of summer 2017.”
It looks set to be a fun-filled weekend of fundraising and family fun, so get involved, raise some money for a fantastic cause and support others who will be doing the same!
