Body recovered from Thames

NewsTeddington RNLI today recovered the body of an elderly woman spotted in the river near Stevens Eyot.

Teddington Lifeboat station is one of four on the Thames and is staffed by volunteers similar to how coastal stations are run.

The Thames river response service is less than 10 years old and was set-up in response to safety inquiry findings after the tragic loss of 51 lives in the Marchioness disaster. The enquiry criticised the lack of a dedicated rescue service on the Thames.

If you live or work within 3 minutes of Teddington Lifeboat Station then you can also apply to be a volunteer team member – the current crew includes an engineer, banker and a designer.

If you ever have an emergency on the Thames, call 999 and ask for London coastguard.
