The only bookmakers in Teddington, Ladbrokes, has closed down permanently just as punters have a flutter on the outcome of the Euros, where England are on of the favourites, it was revealed today.

One local resident told Teddington Town that he had been told the shop would become a butchers – the first in the High Street for many years.

The Ladbrokes website shows England at 7-2 to win the Championships and Scotland, who play Germany in the opening match tonight, (fri) at 200-1.

More and more punters are placing their bets through personal online accounts and the betting shops’ footfall has declined dramatically over the last five years.

The bookmakers, at the High Street end of Teddington, next to Pizza Firenze, is now boarded up with plywood covering the door and and paper covering the inside of the windows creating an eyesore amongst the ranks of coffee shops and restaurants.

Where the distinctive bright red sign had been above the shop it was possible to read the shop’s previous life as H.E. Woods Turf Accountants.

A Site Safety warning sign on the window says, warning, Dangerous Site as well as other warnings.

According to a Ladbrokes source, the shop will not be reopening and it is a ‘business decision.’

Historically, there was another Ladbrokes betting shop at the other end of Broad Street, which also closed several years ago.
